President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Gen. Abdul-Fattah Al-Burhan, stressed that Sudan aims during this period, through a number of tracks, to achieve the sustainable development goals by adopting a development process based on strengthening economic governance, planning the management of multiple development resources and fighting corruption through positive exchange and smart partnerships with the brothers and friends.
In his speech before the UN Fifth Summit of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) leaders kicked off on Saturday in Doha , under the auspices of the United Nations, Gen. Al-Burhan pointed out that the transitional government has developed an integrated framework for development and poverty reduction during the period (2021-2023), under which it formulated an economic and social development plan based on pillars in line with economic reforms and building a basis for a diversified, inclusive and sustainable economy that helps achieving self-sufficiency and addresses the issue of poverty by fighting corruption.
The President of the TSC referred to a number of challenges and obstacles faced by the transitional period government, especially the political complexities, the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the global energy shortage and the food crisis.
Al-Burhan called on the development partners of the United Nations and international financial institutions to provide assistance to Sudan at this stage and to address the debt issue in its international and regional context so that Sudan can move forward in achieving the sustainable development goals by the 2030.
Al-Burhan pointed out that the United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries in Doha is an opportunity to support and strengthen partnerships and cooperation between the developed and developing countries to move forward in achieving the sustainable development goals and addressing the climate change issue, expressing his hope that the summit’s outcome will be for the interest of the least developed countries.
The UN Secretary-General António Guterres, has addressed the opening session along with a number of heads of state and government.
